Swimming lessons for kids is one of the most important activity a parent should sign up for their child from the very start. The sport not only helps the child in their developmental growth, it also helps to ensure that they are water-safe. Equipping your child with water survival skills through proper swimming lessons allow them to enjoy and have fun in the pool. However, is simply signing your child up for swimming lessons alone enough? Does this mean that parents do not need to keep their eyes on their child when they are in the water.

In 2018, the world’ largest lifeguard association has issued a warning that parents are too engrossed on their smartphones which this kids are swimming. According to the German Lifeguard Association, cases of children drowning in the pool is a growing problem as more parents are getting distracted by their mobile devices. In the first 7 months of 2018, Germany had 279 drowning cases alone.

According to United States Centers for Disease Control, drowning are the second-leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14. Many parents are not heeding advice to put their phones away when their child is in the water. They don’t realise that it only takes a few seconds for a child to submerge and potentially drown.

Experts understand that not bringing a cellphone to the pool at all is far-fetched for most people, but its still advised to put the phone away when your child is in the pool. Just a few seconds of distraction can result in an irreversible consequence once a life is taken away.

At Aquatics In Motion, we always remind parents to put their phones away when their child is in the pool. Even when their child is attending lessons, it is good to build the habit of keeping their eyes on their child at all times. Swimming lessons for kids play an important role in advocating water-safety, but parents play an equally important role as well.
